I am the granddaughter of William T. Russell and Kate Hargrove; and the granddaughter of  Hunter J. Alexander and Mary Chavis; I am the daughter of Whitman Russell and Annie P. Alexander. I am a descendent of a slave known to my family as Will. Will was sent to Shockoe Bottom, a huge slave trading center in Richmond, Virginia. Will was a repeat runaway, but could never be broken.

 I am because they were.

The people whom I love most in my world are my son, Jon Whitman Russell Meadows, his wife, Donielle, my granddaughter, Zariyah, my niece, Shari Jo Swann, my sisters Laverne Russell Swann and Dr Joyce Russell, my nephews, Dr. William Russell Robinson Sr, his wife, Sharon, and my grandnephew William Russell Robinson Jr.
